Klee - Santomaso. Observers of Sense

6th April - 29th May 2004

opening: Monday 5th April 2004, 9pm.

This particular exhibition compares Giuseppe Santomaso (Venezia 1907-1990) and Paul Klee (Münchenbuchsee 1879 – Muralto 1940). The artists belonged to different generations and developed their artistic studies in different cultural spheres. But in their works we find incredible spiritual affinities putting down roots in a light soul where natural elements, experiences and thoughts live and become  essential lines, rare transparence shapes and interlacements of marks and colours. This makes the movements of soul –in the simplicity and complexity of moments – more visible.
In both artists’ work –and you can better see this in the papers, immediately showing mind acquisitions and spiritual visions – there are symbols filled with suggestions, an idea of shape made of disintegration and reassembling, an idea of art based upon the lyric sense embracing the whole existence.
The exhibition, mostly consisting of paper works, takes up the reflections already proposed at Galleria Blu in the many “meetings” with the two maestri. The Galleria in fact has often exhibited Klee’s works (1961, 1984, 1991, 1992, 1993-94, 1994-95, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2003) as well as Santomaso’s (1959, 1971, 1972, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003). There’s always been a distance dialogue between them which now, with this exhibition, becomes pressing.
Paul Klee’s works are mostly his 1930s works, with some interesting anticipation of 1917 and 1927; the works by Santomaso were painted between 1938 and 1969. A good stimulus for the public may be given by the links among the works, real cross-references from one to another or sometimes mind or spirit assonances.
The exhibition is a request for exploring the deepest soul of the artists in order to find in them (and the two we’ve chosen are effective examples) some universal attitudes here shown through the soft poetry animating their art works.
The exhibition opens at Galleria Blu on monday 5th april at 9pm, and it will last up to may 29th, 2004.
